Damn ya'll! I go away for a few days and I come back to see I've topped 11000 views! That is so awesome and humbling and I can't thank you all enough for your comments and faves over the past year! <3
GMX was so much fun! It's a smaller, multimedia con in Nashville and my first year there did not disappoint! My cohosts and I got some great audio while interviewing Ellen McLain (GLaDOS from Portal) and Veronica Belmont (celebrity tech podcaster/blogger) and I had a great time just chilling with friends in a low-key con atmosphere.
The highlight was definitely meeting Rob Paulsen aka the voice of my childhood. He was the first "celebrity" that I was ever aware of - in 1993 Animaniacs came out and my 12 year old self was just starting to morph into the "fandom-oriented" adult of today. I loved that show so much and Yakko was my favorite character, so at some point I started to pay attention to the credits. I had to know who these people were whose voices were having such an impact on me. So I saw his name. And when I started looking at credits from other shows, he was there too. And the years went on and he continued to voice some of the best characters in animation, and I was like "This dude. I love this dude." Recently he popped up on twitter and I started following him there and he was so kind, retweeting and talking with (it seemed) pretty much everyone who mentioned him.
So why was I so goddamn nervous to approach him? He was going to be nice to me, that was a given. But I didn't know how to properly convey how much it meant to meet him. I just knew I had to try.
So I got in line. My turn came. He smiled and shook my hand. I told him about my first memory of watching a show's credits being with Animaniacs and how much I loved Yakko and that afterwards I kept seeing his name everywhere and finally now, I can properly meet and thank him for his work. He seemed genuinely touched and then I asked to get his autograph, choosing a picture of him surrounded by thought bubbles of his most famous characters. He signed it "Hellooooo, Brooke! Love, Rob Paulsen." When I asked if he would take a picture with me, he said "Are you kidding? I'm coming around that table and we are going to take a picture for sure!" So we took a couple of pictures (with me grinning like the biggest idiot) and then he did the Yakko voice and joked about taking me back to the watertower.

The next day I was sitting at

's friend's art table and Rob and Billy West were nearby signing and during a lull, he came over to say hi again! Just the nicest, sweetest guy you can imagine and dude is a stone cold silver fox, no lie.
Yeah this con is one for the memory books.
I do like the small cons better; the one I go to is limited to 450, including staff! But that means you have a much better chance of one-on-ones with your favorite author/artist, etc. (And oddly, it's in Chattanooga... must be a Tennessee thing.
Gratz on the pageviews!
And thanks! :3
